[명사]

1. 가산명사

➀ 보통명사

- 일정한 형태가 있는 명사 : desk, pen, bottle, book 등

 

- 형태는 없어도 셀 수 있는 명사

· 동사 + ever / or : teacher / elevator ···

· 장소 : place / city ···

· 사람 : representative / receptionist / attendant / employee ···

· 규칙 : regulation / rule / precaution / instruction / measure(방책) / procedure ···

· 시간 : hour / day

· 무게 : pound / gram

· 거리 : feet / mile

· 기타 : plan / mistake / request / benefit / decision / mistake / contribution / account / discount /

circumstance / complaint / approach / presentation / arrangement / offer / rate / resource /

acquaintance(지인, 아는사람) / compliment(칭찬) / detail / reservation / suggestion / error / refund /

adversity

 

- “the + 단수 보통명사” = 추상명사

· the mother(모정) / the patriot(애국심) / the beggar(거지근성) / the cradle(유년기)

 

➁ 집합명사

- family형

· family / class(계층) / audience / jury(배심원) / army / committee / party(정당) / assembly(회중) / crowd(군중) /

people(민족) / public(대중) / nation / crew(근무조) / aristocracy(귀족)

 

* 집합명사와 군집명사 비교

집합명사	군집명사
하나의 집합으로 볼 때를 집합명사라 하며, 단수 취급	개체에 초점을 두는 경우 군집명사라 하며, 복수 취급
The audience was clapping.	The audience were overwhelmed.
My family lives here. (가족 전체)	My family are all Christian.
The committee meets today. (위원회 전체)	The committee are informed. (위원회 의원들)
The jury consists of twenty persons.	The jury were divided in their opinions again.
The audience was very large.	The audience were pleased with the performance.

 

- cattle 형 : a(n), the, -s (x) => 복수 취급!

· cattle(소떼) / people(사람들) / poultry(가금류)

 

- police형 : a(n), -s (x) => the + police 복수 취급!

· police / nobility(귀족) / clergy(성직자) / peasantry(소작농) ex) The clergy are assembled in the room.

 

 

2. 불가산명사

baggage	수하물	information	정보	evidence	증거	wealth	부

9. 명사

➀ 고유명사

- 원칙은 관사를 쓰지 않고 복수형으로 쓰지 않지만, 관사와 함께 쓰는 경우도 많음.

- “the + 이름s" 은 ‘~일가족’ 또는 ‘~부부’를 의미

 

➁ 추상명사

- “have + the + 추상명사 + to V" : ~할 만큼 충분히 ···하다.

· “be + 형용사 + enough to + R"

have the kindness to V	친절하게도 ~하다
have the boldness to V	대담히도 ~하다
have the courage to V	용감히도 ~하다
have the wisdon to V	현명하게도 ~하다

 

- “of + 추상명사” = 형용사

of talent ->	talented (재능이 있는)	of sense ->	sensible (유명한)
of learning ->	learned (학식이 있는)	of ability ->	able (유능한)

 

- “to one's(소유격) + 추상명사(감정명사)” : ~하게도

to one's sorrow	슬프게도	to one's relief	안심이 되게도
to one's shame	창피스럽게도	to one's grief	슬프게도
to one's regret	후회스럽게도	to one's distress	비탄스럽게도
to one's disappointment	실망스럽게도	to one's surprise	놀랍게도

 

- “전치사 + 추상명사” = 부사

with ease ->	easliy	with patience ->	patiently
with kindness ->	kindly	with rapidity ->	rapidly

 

- “관사 + 추상명사” 관용표현

a beauty	미인	a success	성공한 사람, 사건
a failure	실패한 사람, 사건	an authority	권위자
a cure	치료제	an invention	발명품
a democracy	민주주의 국가	a favor	친절한 행위
a pity	유감스런 일

 

➂ 물질명사

- 단위명사를 이용하여 세며, 다른 명사로 전용될 수 있다.

· 물질명사를 수량으로 나타내야 하는 경우 : “수사 + 단위명사 + of + 물질명사”

· a handful of sand (모래 한 줌), a spoonful of sugar (설탕 한 숟가락), two grains of rice (쌀 낟알 두 개)

 

- 물질명사의 보통명사화

· 물질명사는 관사나 복수 형태로 인해 다른 의미가 될 수 있다.
